What the storms left behind
After the storms that hit the Gold Coast, Logan and the Scenic Rim over Christmas and New Year, the Queensland Reconstruction Authority named Helensvale among the suburbs with the most damage.
Helensvale State School was one of two Gold Coast state schools seriously damaged, with a tree impacting a classroom in a two-storey learning building. Trees that took that kind of wind and stayed up are the ones worth a look.
Nothing about that is unusual for the way this suburb sits. It was planned around a curving central reserve, and blocks here back onto public trees as well as their own.

Helensvale questions
Green waste, and the parks behind the fence
Why is there a cartage charge for the limbs?
Because the load travels. The Helensvale Waste and Recycling Centre does not accept green organics, and the City says the closest green organics drop and go facility to Helensvale is at Pimpama.
Whose trees are whose where we back onto a park?
Worth settling before a date is booked. This was planned as a Canberra style suburb around a central reserve, and numerous linear parks run like wheel spokes from the central reserve, so a lot of blocks here share a boundary with council land. Your own side is quoted normally.
